Don’t Give Reluctant Readers too Many Choices
Your child doesn’t want to read, so you’ve decided to bring home some new books and magazines to encourage him. Now, would he rather read the new Harry Potter, that sports book by Matt Christopher or the new Wickit Chronicles fantasy series from Usborne? And maybe you should pick up Boy’s Life along with the sporting, skateboarding and BMX magazines. After all, the more choices, the better, right? Wrong.

While getting a huge selection of reading material is like heaven to an avid reader, kids who struggle to make it through one book or magazine are often overwhelmed when they see that pile of books! If you decide to buy a range of materials, put all but one of them in storage and dole them out a few at a time.
